Plantar Fasciitis Recovery Aided by Exercises

As The New York Times reports: a recent study indicates that novice runners who develop heel pain called plantar fasciitis typically need five or more months to recover. Plantar fasciitis treatments have frequently involved stretching and painkillers (ibuprofen or cortisone for inflammation).

Now experts believe that the medication may not be necessary as the injury does not involve considerable inflammation. The new study finds that therapeutic exercise may be the most effective means of plantar fasciitis recovery.

"After three months, those in the exercise group reported vast improvements. Their pain and disability had declined significantly."

Quoting Michael Skovdal Rathleff, the researcher at Aalborg University in Denmark who led the study, there is “a quicker reduction in pain” with the exercise program.
