Conflicting Evidence on Spinal Manipulation for Back Pain
September 4, 2015
LiveScience reports on a new study that shows spinal manipulation, also known as applying force to the spine, a technique used by chiropractors and some physical therapists, will have positive effects for some individuals, but not for others.
As LiveScience notes: "The big finding is that both sides have been right all along," said Greg Kawchuk, a professor of rehabilitation medicine at the University of Alberta and co-author of the study. "It's not a matter of whether the treatment works or doesn't work, but rather, figuring out the best way to care for each patient."
"Back pain is not one problem — it's a group of problems," so there won't be one treatment that works for everyone, Kawchuk said.
Exercise therapy is still the #1 prescribed treatment for back pain, and that's how SimpleTherapy can help!
